TNA Lockdown made its return on Sunday, August 23, 2026, bringing back one of the most famous ideas in the history of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, after a ten year hiatus. In addition, there was a Countdown pre-show leading into the main card, with extra matches. TNA’s official results page states that the Countdown was available free through TNA’s digital outlets and TNA+, while the main event was available through TNA+ and pay-per-view.
The Hardys Defend Their Tag Team Titles
Who wouldn’t want to watch TNA World Tag Team Championship match, between The Hardys and Nic and Ryan Nemeth, on Lockdown?
In this event, Matt and Jeff Hardy went in as champions while Nemeth brothers came to steal the title from a legendary tag team.
The addition of the cage also contributed an additional wrinkle to the match. The competitors weren’t allowed to just head to the floor, and the enclosed environment facilitated the occurrence of physical spots which became a hallmark of the Lockdown concept.
The storylines of this match-up extended beyond the tag-team division, however, as Nic Nemeth was the TNA World Champion coming into the event and, if the brothers were to win the tag titles Nic Nemeth would have a chance to be a two time champion.
This was what made the match one of the title bouts on the card.
Xia Brookside Faces Elayna Black
The TNA Knockouts Championship was set to be defended in the cage as well, as Xia Brookside was defending her title against Elayna Black.
Black had the momentum and the Chicago home court advantage on her side to take the match, while Brookside had the added pressure of defending her title.

As a show that is mainly a cage-based event it was perfect. Not one match on the main card was outside the cage with 8 on and two more on the Countdown. There were 5 championship matches with a number of titles changing hands before the night was done. The biggest news came when the Nemeth brothers won the TNA World Tag Team Championship and Leon Slater won the X-Division Championship and then used his Option C to challenge for a TNA World Championship match.

All pre-show matches were not inside the giant cage as the main card. The Righteous defeated BDE and Rich Swann. Trey Miguel defeated Special Agent 0 in his first singles win for TNA.
AJ Francis Defeats Elijah in The Final Encore
The main card started off with AJ Francis vs. Elijah in The Final Encore. This match was very brief but already proved the importance of the cage, as both wrestlers used the structure.
This was another critical moment in the match with Elijah having the chance to gain some dominance over his opponent with a huge combination from the top of the cage. AJ Francis was able to endure the onslaught only to being over distracted by Expressions helping Francis to land Down Payment and finally the win.
The rivalry didn’t end clean after the bell. Elijah used a guitar to hit Francis, ending the first match in chaos.
Kiera Hogan Returns as Allie’s Mystery Partner
The match for the Knockouts Tag Team Championship was another surprising result of the night.
Allie was in need of a new partner as Rosemary was still not present to join her in teaming up against The Elegance Brand. The mystery partner was revealed to be Kiera Hogan providing us with a surprise return and instantly placed a another well known name within the Knockouts tag team division.
Allie and Hogan kept the title with a win over Heather and M by Elegance. Hogan, who was the one to get the pin on M, had his spectacular return become a bit more spectacular. TNA results coverage, also noted, that Hogan became a champion right there with Allie.
It also resulted in an inconclusive end to the Rosemary angle, making her the still-missing champion and important part of the Knockouts story.
Frankie Kazarian Escapes the Cage
Frankie Kazarian beats Moose in Escape the Cage match.
The rule made the cage the goal. Instead of just trying to pin the other guy, they had to get out of the cage.
The conclusion of the match was particularly intense. As the two men battled to escape, the Moose delivered a crushing spear to Kazarian and his impact drove him through the ring door and to the floor below. As he had got out first, Kazarian was the name called as the winner.
This victory further enhanced the rivalry that has been building between the two veterans over the last few months and also gave Kazarian a huge victory over one of TNA’s most high profile events.
Xia Brookside Retains the Knockouts Title
Xia Brookside beat Elayna Black to keep her hold on the TNA Knockouts World Championship.
Probably one of the more physical matches of the evening, both wrestlers took punishment as the contest wore on. This was a big opportunity for Black’s challenge, and Brookside held on to retain the title.
The conclusion saw Brookside turn the tables as she poured powder into the eyes of Black. An assistant came to keep hold of her as Brookside finished Black off with her finisher. The end meant Black could get away with losing the title here as the action really got worse.
The win keeps Brookside in the heart of the Knockouts division and the defeat leaves Black with another loss after a valiant effort.
Mustafa Ali Wins the International Championship
A big shocker arrived when the newly crowned Jason Hotch lost to Mustafa Ali to become the TNA International Champion.
The rivalry had been becoming more personal for some time. Hotch came to the ring ready to show what he could do, Ali was simply trying to get back up in the title hunt.
Things really got crazy at the end of this contest. Hotch was thrown off by a stuffed toy that had been snatched from his daughter by Ali in the crowd and Ali was able to take advantage of the distraction. Two 450 Splash’s finally did the trick and Ali defeated the champ.
The change to the championship provides Ali with the addition of a second major title from TNA, as well as opening up new avenues in the International Championship division.
Leon Slater Wins Back the X-Division Title
The biggest outcome of the night came from in the Last Man Standing Steel-cage match, between Cedric Alexander and Leon Slater.
The stakes for this match were a lot more than just a potential championship victory. If Slater lost to the challenge of Samoa Joe, then all record of his previously held X-Division title would have been wiped from existence in the history books of TNA. This made the match really be a personal fight for Slater’s legacy, along with a title match, and the live TNA match webcast reminded fans of the importance of the stipulation.
Eventually, Slater was able to take down Alexander and regain the X-Division title. After three Lumbar Checks in a row and a Swanton 450, Slater was able to buy enough time to reach the ten-count on Alexander.
This win was followed on the very same day by an even more significant event.
Leon Slater Uses Option C for Bound for Glory
Following his victory at the X-Division Championship, Leon Slater was far from celebrating.
He Opted C and, by trading the X-Division Championship, entered himself into a TNA World Championship match against Nic Nemeth at the October 11, 2026 Bound for Glory Pay-Per-View. With this one decision, Slater was immediately elevated from the X-Division to the World Championship picture.
This is perhaps the most significant plot development to emerge from Lockdown. Slater stands to go for TNA’s biggest prize, and Nemeth will have an opponent in the locker room who has just survived one of the toughest matches of his career.
The System Wins Lethal Lockdown
The Lethal Lockdown match was just the multi-man carnage the fans wanted to see from the show.
The System (Eddie Edwards, Brian Myers, Bear Bronson and Alisha Edwards) defeated Ricky Sosa, Fabian Aichner, KC Navarro and Jada Stone.
Was the date for the first ever Battle Royal to enter the cage, before it was filled with weapons and chaos. Alisha Edwards became the first Knockout to ever compete in Monster’s Ball, Ultimate X and Lethal Lockdown.
The System triumphed when Eddie Edwards speared Ricky Sosa through the steel chairs before pinning him for the victory.
The outcome solidified The System’s stance and provided the group with yet another huge win in one of TNA’s homegrown match types.
The Nemeth Brothers Win the Main Event
The biggest shock of the Championships was in the main event.
Nic and Ryan Nemeth, coming as a tag team, defeated Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy in a Tornado Tag Team steel-cage match to win the TNA World Tag Team Championship.
The Hardys came in as champions but the Nemeth brothers got the better in the huge brawl.
Matt Hardy delivered a diving elbow to Ryan Nemeth through a table as Jeff Hardy was caught up in another part of the cage. It looked like Matt was set to retain but Nic Nemeth delivered the Danger Zone to Matt, covering him to claim the titles.
This win gave the odd double-championship feat for Nic Nemeth as he was the TNA World Champion he was exiting Lockdown with the World Championship and World Tag Team Championship with his brother Ryan.
Avery Styles Signs With TNA After Lockdown Surprise
In addition to the competition, the show had a big announcement to make.
Avery Styles, 19 year old son of TNA icon and WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles, debuted at Lockdown and revealed that he had signed a deal with the promotion. He explained that he saw TNA as a significant chapter in his father’s life and wanted to start working there himself.
Later, Frankie Kazarian made his way to Avery on the entrance ramp and explained how wrestlers like AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and himself got TNA up and running. Frankie also gave Avery some pointers about the locker room.
This announcement does give TNA another young star that has a clear relation to one of the organization’s most influential ex-wrestlers.
What Comes Next After TNA Lockdown
The biggest future match development is León Slater vs. Nic Nemeth for the TNA World Championship at the Bound for Glory event on October 11, 2026. Leon Slater’s Option C change has confirmed that this feud is now centered on the world title.
Nic Nemeth advances to the second round of TNA programming as a double champion, teaming with his brother Ryan to overcome The Hardys. That leaves a whole host of immediate questions; how long will he be able to maintain both titles, and will his tag run interfere with his World Title duties?
Mustafa Ali is the current International Champion and his win also presents a new beginning for the title, as is the case for Kiera Hogan as he reestablishes her as a contender for the Knockouts Tag Team Championship.
